Its purpose is to inform people about this specific aspect of the energy transition since the term "green neighbourhood" is still relatively unfamiliar. People often associate this term with solar panels, windmills, and other renewable energy sources, but a green neighbourhood also encompasses green spaces such as postage stamp parks, vegetable gardens, and sedum roofs.
This project was designed to make that idea more accessible. Rather than presenting facts and information, we explored how storytelling and interaction could help people understand what a green neighbourhood really means and how it can positively shape everyday life.

stepping into the neighbourhood
To bring the topic to life, we created The Green Scene: an interactive story following three households in the neighbourhood of Weltendijk as they experience the transition towards a greener future. Through video, interactive moments, and additional information, users could explore different perspectives while learning about both the opportunities and concerns surrounding the transition.
Every design decision was grounded in research. We explored the questions, expectations, and uncertainties people have about sustainable neighbourhoods, using those insights to shape an experience that encouraged curiosity, empathy, and understanding rather than simply presenting facts.

from concept to code
From the first ideas to the final prototype, we were involved throughout the entire design and development process. Together, we translated our research into an interactive experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, bringing The Green Scene from concept to reality.
